Mishandling of food can result in various diseases, which can make a person seriously sick. This can be caused by germs or bacteria that get into food. It is therefore necessary to store, prepare, and process food while observing proper hygiene. How do these germs get into your food? When food is not processed properly, it can pose some risks to your health. Use clean water to wash food as it needs to be free of germs from animal manure that can contaminate the water and pose some health risks to people who will eat them. When preparing food, it is always advisable to keep hands and utensils as clean as possible before touching food. Knives, cutting boards, and counters which are all used in preparing food need to be washed with hot, soapy water. Preparing different kinds of food like meats, fruits, and vegetables should be done separately. This is to keep germs on raw meat from getting into other foods. If using the same knife, make sure to wash it every time after cutting raw meat. Cooked meat should be placed on a clean plate to avoid it from becoming contaminated from germs. Moreover, hygienic practices should also be observed when storing utensils and food. Uncooked food should be kept in the fridge to keep them fresh. Even cut fruits and vegetables should also be chilled to prevent them from becoming spoiled. Leftovers that can still be eaten must be kept in the fridge as well. Utensils such as knives, spoons, forks, plates, and food containers should be washed thoroughly to keep germs away.
